      Kofi Land Resort, Thekkady

KofiLand Resort is a project undertaken by Jibu & Thomas that highlights the natural terrain on which it is constructed. The inlets of water coming down the hills serve as the focal point of the resort. The administrative block, the service blocks and the restaurant are all placed in an already existing flatbed at the bottom of the valley. These blocks are tilted up to create minimum disturbance to the existing land profile. Lots of natural local materials are used for various fixtures like gates, balcony and hand rims. Wood from coffee plant trees are used for the gates and hand rims while choola is used for the attic openings. The idea was to use locally available material in construction and not impose synthetic materials.

Dr. K L Babys Dental Clinic

Rarely will a visit to the dental clinic elicit enthusiasm that is in direct contradiction to the purpose of the visit. But at Baby’s Dental Clinic, the space and the design of the setup is enough to distract you from the discomfort that a visit to the dentist might entail. The focal point of the clinic is the procedure room, where the dental chairs face a full, cascading waterfall. Constructed around the compound wall and encased in glass, the waterfall has been designed for the express purpose of making the patient feel calm and serene while undergoing dental procedures. The entire clinic has been built with rustic stone and roofed with steeply pitched sloping ceiling to lend the building an ambience of the countryside. Almost half of the entire space of a 1000 sq. ft. has been devoted to a manicured, lush-green lawn. With the stone building placed right in the middle of the garden, the accent is placed on offering a sense of comfort and well-being to its visitors.

      Mr. Anas Residence

Built on an area of 7000 sq. ft., Mr. Anas wanted a house that had a whole lot of wood element to it. At Jibu & Thomas, after extensive discussions with the client, we conceptualised a four bedroom house with a ground and a first floor designed around a courtyard in the centre. A separate floor combines the attic space. From the flooring to the pillars, the staircases and even the banisters running along them have been built with the finest quality of wood. All the rooms are designed to get optimal natural light filtering in. The rustic exteriors are topped with a sloped roof that is incorporated keeping in mind the existing climate, the roof acts as a canopy in the hot summer and also doubles up as space for drying clothes in the monsoons. Locally available choola wood has been used extensively to design the attic, giving it a pleasing, woody ambience.

      Noel Greenature Residential appartment building

Green Nature is the first residential building in Kerala to be awarded the IGBC gold certificate. Promoted by Noel Projects and Properties
Green Nature, as the name suggests, are a high-rise of apartments built on 2.5 acres of canted slope, sweeping into its construct, the terrain, and the view, with a simplicity of charm. Each apartment is designed with the idea of giving it the impression of an independent villa. The entry through the garden court acts as an entry compound to the house. Once inside the apartment, it is a delight to discover that the entire layout is separated by small elevations – a couple of steps up lead up to the main verandah, another few steps and you enter the living and dining areas. Interlaced with a couple of open, green terraces at different levels, the apartments wear a feeling of expansiveness. Meticulously manicured with greenery, the terraces also serve as little gateways to nature. The 112 apartments, with an area of upto 2300 sq. ft., are set apart in two separate towers, each with 15 floors, facing the horizon. Built on only 20 percent of the entire area, 80 percent of the remaining area is devoted to a green cover that includes neatly trimmed lawns, dressed with rows of hedges and plants. A common lobby at the ground floor allows access to the apartments; a swimming pool and other amenities outline the entrance.
